Firefox the Company vs Firefox the Browser

Correct me if I am wrong - but I thought Firefox was a browser!

You are, of course, absolutely correct.  Firefox is the name of the web browser produced by the Mozilla Foundation. However, the Mozilla Foundation license certain Trade Mark rights because the name 'Firefox' was already a Registered Trade Mark in the UK.  This Trade Mark was owned by Firefox Communications - founded in 1990 by one of the owners of Firefox SMS Systems - and is now owned by its successor The Charlton Company.  An agreement exists between the Mozilla Foundation and The Charlton Company with respect to the rights and use of the Trade Mark.

The Charlton Company, one of the owners of Firefox SMS Systems Limited which developed SaveCell, continues to own certain exclusive rights to the name Firefox.

Firefox the company has no connection with the Mozilla Foundation or Firefox the browser.
