How does 'Wipe My Contacts' work?

'Wipe My Contacts' works by you requesting the SaveCell Vault to send a message to your phone that will delete all of the information in your phone's contact list or phonebook.

In order to Wipe your contacts, you will first you need to login to this website.  You do this from the web site's home page where you will find the login panel at the bottom left of the page. You will need your mobile Phone Number and the Username that you supplied when you registered your phone with the SaveCell Vault.

On successful login, you will see the SaveCell Help page.  Your login Username and Phone Number will be shown at the top of the page.  To Wipe your contacts scroll down to the bottom of the screen where you will see the 'Wipe My Contacts' request form which will already have your Phone Number and Username entered. You will need to supply some more information to enable the SaveCell Vault to perform the Wipe action:

Firstly, you will need to provide your Scramble Key - this is the code that you selected and used when you registered SaveCell in your phone.  This is mandatory.  By supplying your Scramble Key you are providing the authorisation necessary to delete all of the contacts in your phone. This is the only time that the SaveCell Vault gets your Scramble Key, and it is only used for the Wipe verification action after which it is discarded. It is never used to unscramble your data from the Vault.

Secondly, you may also request that a Wipe confirmation or Wipe failure message  be sent to you when the SaveCell Vault has attempted to Wipe your contacts.  This is optional.  You can enter an email address or a mobile phone number or both.  The SaveCell Vault will send you an SMS text notification message to that phone if you enter a mobile phone number (this can be any phone anywhere in any country that will accept an SMS text message).  Note that this must be a phone other than the one you are trying to Wipe!

Once you have provided this information the web site will ask you to confirm that it is correct before it attempts to Wipe your contacts. Clicking 'Wipe My Contacts' will take you to a confirmation page where you can select whether or not to Wipe. If you continue with the Wipe, the SaveCell Vault now does two things: It keeps a record of your Wipe request in the SaveCell Vault, and sends a Wipe command out to your phone. If the phone is switched on, it receives the Wipe command and checks the Scramble Key against the one held by the SaveCell application running in your phone. If the Scramble Key is a match, SaveCell in the phone deletes all the contacts in the phone's local phonebook, deletes the local record of the Username and Scramble Key in the phone, and permanently closes down the SaveCell application.    Once this is done, the phone sends a success report to the SaveCell Vault telling it how many contacts were deleted.  If the SaveCell Vault has an email address or phone number against the Wipe request, it will send an email or text message confirming the Wipe has taken place.

If SaveCell is required on that phone in the future, the SaveCell application must be  completely removed from the phone and re-installed in order to restore normal SaveCell operation.

If the Wipe request failed because the Scramble key provided did not match the Scramble Key in the phone, a Wipe failure report is sent back to the SaveCell Vault, and no actions are taken.  The SaveCell Vault will send an email or text message notifying failure to Wipe if there was an email address or phone number supplied when the request was made. The record of the Wipe attempt that the SaveCell Vault holds is deleted at this point, whether or not the action was successful. This ensures that we only hold your Scramble Key for the minimum amount of time and only for the duration of the Wipe attempt.

If your phone has been stolen, you should issue the Wipe request BEFORE telling your Service Provider that your phone has gone, and they bar it from the network.  If the phone cannot receive messages, the Wipe command cannot be received by your phone!
